It is really a great help to have our old tapes transfered to DVD to preserve captured memories.

I came across VHS-C tapes from an old camcorder. This pictures went back to 1994-1998. A lot of the locations I had checked wanted you to mail you cassettes to them (I did not feel safe, what if they got lost in the mail). I contacted Saving Tape in Minneapolis and was told I could bring the tapes down, view them and then they would make them into CD/DVD'S. I had 3 years of family reunion from 1996, 1997 and 1998 and pictures of my son from 1994 through 1st grade. I took my tapes there and viewed them, they were wonderful. I gave the job to Saving Tape, I cannot express enough of what a WONDERFUL job they did and how friendly they were. I would suggest that if you have any old VHS, Camcorder tapes than you take your items to them, Once again, a WONDERFUL job. When I received the videos, they did not seem like they were 15+ years ago. Please check with them and take your business to them, I ended up with 4 CD's/DVD's at a very reasonable price and were done within a week. Please call 612-822-7283 if you would like to save your videos for years ago.

Hi. I just received from my brother our father's collection of 8mm film reels (about 18 pounds worth), which he shot between the early 1940's and mid 1980's -- most are in color, some b/w. These were transferred to VHS about 15 years ago, and I later transferred all the footage to digital for use in my various family history video projects. Dad spliced many into 7" reels but hadn't gotten around to the rest, so there are quite a few small reels as well.
I'm interested in having them transferred directly to digital (DVD). Since I will happily do all the editing, I only want the raw footage -- no music, no thumb nails, no titles.
The better film (actually some of the oldest) could merely be cleaned and transferred, but the poorer film could benefit from color restoration. While I can do that to some degree in Final Cut, I assume that direct restoration of the film itself prior to digitization would be superior; however, I'd need to consider the cost.
Since you're located in Minneapolis, my plan would be to bring over to your studio one or two large reels at a time as my budget allows.

Thoughts?

Thanks,
Nick
